The highly skilled and patterned Ajrakh block-printing came to Kachchh from Sind (Pakistan) 400 years ago when the Muslim Khatris (artisans who ‘apply colour to cloth’) settled in the village of Dhamadka .
The Quilts are made from layers of thick cotton, pieced together and hand stitched then embellished with small silver mirrors. Each Ajrakh is reversible, with a print block pattern on one side and coloured embroidery on the other.
